World Sui­cide Preven­tion Day

World Sui­cide Preven­tion Day, on 10 Septem­ber, is or­ga­nized by the In­ter­na­tional As­so­ci­a­tion for Sui­cide Preven­tion (IASP). The pur­pose of this day is to raise aware­ness around the globe that sui­cide can be pre­vented.

In past years, over 300 ac­tiv­i­ties in around 70 coun­tries were re­ported to IASP in­clud­ing ed­u­ca­tional and com­mem­o­ra­tive events, press brief­ings and con­fer­ences, as well as Face­book and Twit­ter cov­er­age.

The fol­low­ing ac­tiv­i­ties have been planned for St Lu­cia: • Church Ser­vice at Tem­ple of Faith Pen­te­costal Church on Septem­ber 6 at 9:30 • Panel Dis­cus­sion, Septem­ber 10, 2015, at the Castries City Hall • Ex­hi­bi­tion dur­ing the week of 7-11 Septem­ber, 2015 • Arts of Well­ness Septem­ber 11, 2015 • News Spin on Septem­ber 10 - guest, Dr. Naomie Jn Bap­tiste. • Sept 15 - Santé Nous - guest Dr. Naomie Jn Bap­tiste and a fam­ily mem­ber who has been af­fected by sui­cide • Septem­ber 25 - a de­bate among the pa­tients on the is­sue of sui­cide.

The In­for­ma­tion and Ed­u­ca­tion Unit of the Min­istry of Health has com­mit­ted to in­cor­po­rat­ing sui­cide preven­tion ses­sions into its pro­gramme of ac­tiv­i­ties for the month of Septem­ber.
