World Suicide Prevention Day
World Suicide Prevention Day, on 10 September, is organized by the International Association for Suicide Prevention (IASP). The purpose of this day is to raise awareness around the globe that suicide can be prevented.
In past years, over 300 activities in around 70 countries were reported to IASP including educational and commemorative events, press briefings and conferences, as well as Facebook and Twitter coverage.
The following activities have been planned for St Lucia: • Church Service at Temple of Faith Pentecostal Church on September 6 at 9:30 • Panel Discussion, September 10, 2015, at the Castries City Hall • Exhibition during the week of 7-11 September, 2015 • Arts of Wellness September 11, 2015 • News Spin on September 10 - guest, Dr. Naomie Jn Baptiste. • Sept 15 - Santé Nous - guest Dr. Naomie Jn Baptiste and a family member who has been affected by suicide • September 25 - a debate among the patients on the issue of suicide.
The Information and Education Unit of the Ministry of Health has committed to incorporating suicide prevention sessions into its programme of activities for the month of September.
