Dominica World Creole Music Festival Cancelled!

The Star (St. Lucia) - - LOCAL -

There will be no Dominica World Creole Music Festival this year. The announcement came last Friday from Minister of Tourism in Dominica Robert Tonge who made the “difficult” decision as the island struggles with rebuilding and relief efforts in the aftermath of Tropical Storm Erika which caused major damage to several parts of the island. Many lives were also lost and several persons are reported to be still missing.

In making the announcement Tonge pointed out that a relief concert, to be held on all three nights when the festival was scheduled to be held, is now being organized.

A meeting with the private sector and other stakeholders was held before the final decision on cancelling the event was made.

The 2015 edition of the WCMF was scheduled to take place from October 30 to November 1. Details on the planned relief concert are expected to be released soon.
