Laborie to host Jounen Kwéyòl
The community of Laborie will this year host its 5th edition of Jounen Kwéyòl under the theme “Wéfléchi, Sélébwé èk Anmizé”. This theme embodies the contributions of generations of Laborians to the social, economic and cultural evolution of the community.
Jounen Kwéyòl Labowi 2015 was launched as part of Fèsten Labowi on Friday 25th September, 2015 at the Laborie Village Square. The launch took the form of a cultural presentation by the Laborie La Maguerite Society and the Au Leon La Rose Society dubbed Konba sé flè-a, followed by a performance by the Creole Music Band Avòt Sèvis of Belle Vue, Vieux Fort.
Other activities to look forward to are Mawonn Bòd Lanmè, a beach party with drumming, creole food and games on Monday 5th October at the Rudy John Beach Park; an Indian cultural presentation organised by the Augier Combined School on Sunday 18th October; Tèt-a-Tèt, a community discussion involving reflections on the social, economic and cultural evolution of Laborie; an Evening of Creole Jazz at the Laborie Parish Hall on Thursday 22nd October from 7:30pm; and a Jazz in the South & MUSICBOX presentation supported by Alliance Française featuring the Group “Alibi” from Saint Lucia and “The Jocelyn Ménard Quartet” from Guadeloupe.
Gwan Fèt Jounen Kwéyòl takes place on Sunday 25th October, 2015 and commences with breakfast in the village from 7am and a 9am mass at the Church of the Purification in Laborie. There will then be an Honouring Ceremony for Laborians who have contributed to music, culture and artistic expression in Laborie.
The celebrations will culminate with a Grand Kwéyòl Fair depicting various forms of cuisine and cultural and artistic expressions.
