LIME SUPPORTS KWEYOL HERITAGE MONTH
LIME and the Folk Research Centre are partnering for Kwéyòl Heritage Month 2015.
LIME is a long-time supporter of St. Lucia’s most widely celebrated cultural event and has been one of the premier sponsors of Kwéyòl Heritage Month over the past decade.
At a press launch held at the Folk Research Centre on Tuesday, LIME Commercial Lead, Cheryl Francis, said the company is providing the FRC with a cash donation and additional assistance by way of free mobile credit, promotional airtime on LIME radio programmes and help with advertising.
LIME is also sponsoring Jounen Kwéyòl celebrations in Laborie, Ti Rocher, Micoud and Canaries and each of the host communities will receive similar support.
Ms Francis said LIME is looking forward to working with the FRC to make Kwéyòl Heritage Month a thrilling experience for the people of St. Lucia. “We see our investments in Kwéyòl Heritage Month as a way of helping to grow the economy. We also want to ensure that everyone gets the opportunity to enjoy this wonderful celebration. LIME responds to the needs of the communities in ways that impact positively on the lives of the people we serve,” she added.
Chairman of the FRC, Hilary La Force, expressed his appreciation for the support from LIME. “It is good that LIME continues to be intimately involved in our communities and in promoting St. Lucia’s Kwéyòl heritage, and helping to reinforce our sense of national identity. The FRC is deeply grateful for their support,” Mr. La Force said.
This year’s celebration will feature cultural shows and recreational activities including Lawenn Kwéyòl, Jennes Kwéyòl, music, a Storytelling and Poetry Fiesta and the popular Woulélaba competition. Two weeks of special programmes are planned for schools.
The month climaxes with the Jounen Kwéyòl community fairs held on the last Sunday of October.
