PRIME MIN­IS­TER AN­THONY RE­TURNS FROM NEW YORK

Prime Min­is­ter, Hon. Dr. Kenny D. An­thony, has ar­rived home fol­low­ing a five-day diplo­matic visit to New York City. Among the note­wor­thy events in which he took part were the United Na­tions (UN) Sum­mit on the Adop­tion of the Post-2015 De­vel­op­ment Agenda, at­tended by over 170 heads of state, and the 70th Ses­sion of the Gen­eral De­bate of the United Na­tions Gen­eral Assem­bly.

Fol­low­ing his pre­sen­ta­tion at the UN, Prime Min­is­ter An­thony in­ter­faced with Saint Lu­cians of the Di­as­pora dur­ing a town hall­style meet­ing held in Brook­lyn, New York. He was ac­com­pa­nied by For­eign Af­fairs Min­is­ter Hon. Alva Bap­tiste; Min­is­ter for Sus­tain­able De­vel­op­ment, Energy, Science and Tech­nol­ogy Hon. Dr. James Fletcher; Saint Lu­cia’s Per­ma­nent Rep­re­sen­ta­tive to the United Na­tions H.E. Ms. Menissa Ram­bally, and Con­sul Gen­eral Hon. Ju­lian Du Bois.

Dr. An­thony opened the ses­sion by re­port­ing on the Saint Lu­cian econ­omy. This was fol­lowed by dis­cus­sions on top­ics of spe­cial in­ter­est: job cre­ation and in­vest­ment op­por­tu­ni­ties, the role of over­seas-based Saint Lu­cians in the de­vel­op­ment of the is­land, the IMPACS re­port, and the Royal Saint Lu­cia Po­lice Force.

The Saint Lu­cian leader went on to ad­dress a num­ber of de­vel­op­ments tak­ing place in the lo­cal health sec­tor. He then re­viewed the “Cit­i­zen­ship by In­vest­ment” pro­gramme be­fore tak­ing ques­tions.

Guests were treated to per­for­mances by Saint Lu­cia’s Chil­dren of Cul­ture, singing sen­sa­tion Chris­tine “Chrycee” Charle­magne, and Saint Lu­cian-born gospel artist Al­cee.
