World Bank Of­fi­cials meet in Saint Lu­cia

High level of­fi­cials from the World Bank and the Gov­ern­ment of Saint Lu­cia met in Saint Lu­cia this week at the Palm Haven Ho­tel for the pur­pose of re­view­ing the Bank’s up­date on so­cial and en­vi­ron­men­tal safe­guards.

Cur­rently, the Gov­ern­ment of Saint Lu­cia and the World Bank are in­volved in the ex­e­cu­tion of the Dis­as­ter Vul­ner­a­bil­ity Re­duc­tion Project, DVRP. The US$60.8 mil­lion dol­lar ini­tia­tive is geared to­wards re­duc­ing the coun­try’s risk to dis­as­ters in an era of cli­mate change. Among the projects to be un­der­taken un­der the DVRP, are the re­ha­bil­i­ta­tion of the Marc­hand River Wall, the re­con­struc­tion of the Choc Bridge, a Na­tional Waste­water Man­age­ment Project and the con­struc­tion of the Den­nery Poly­clinic.

The meet­ing was held to dis­cuss the World Bank’s so­cial and en­vi­ron­men­tal safe­guards so as to en­sure that ev­ery ini­tia­tive un­der the Dis­as­ter Vul­ner­a­bil­ity Re­duc­tion Project con­sid­ers pro­tec­tion for the peo­ple and the en­vi­ron­ment.
