The Star (St. Lucia) - - LOCAL - By STAR Reporter

Jeannine ComptonAntoine, daughter of the late Sir John Compton, has announced her intention to contest the next general elections. This she said she will do as an independent for the Micoud North seat.

Her announcement was made Thursday, during an appearance on Mr. Chairman with David Samuels on Calabash TV. This also comes mere days after the UWP’s Convention (Sunday November 15) where Allen Chastanet won the nod to lead the party. Antoine’s father was a founder of the UWP.

Asked about rejoining the party, she discounted this, saying that at present there appeared to be too much division.

She also told the show’s host that her decision was based on the request of several of her supporters in the constituency.

Compton-Antoine represented the Micoud North constituency as an MP - 2007 to 2011, says she is confident she can win the seat she first won for the UWP in a 2007 by-election. This, after her father, Sir John had passed away one year after winning the 2006 general election. Compton-Antoine resigned from the UWP in 2011 and lost the seat ithat year in the general election.
