As Dig­i­cel con­tin­ues to brighten and cre­ate a mer­rier Christ­mas for ev­ery­one dur­ing the fes­tive sea­son, the com­pany was hon­oured to host the 4th An­nual Fes­ti­val of Fun Day for spe­cial needs chil­dren around the is­land. The fun day was held on De­cem­ber 3rd, 2015 (the day cel­e­brated as In­ter­na­tional Day for Per­sons with Dis­abil­i­ties) at the Beause­jour In­door Fa­cil­ity in col­lab­o­ra­tion with the Sa­cred Sports Foun­da­tion and the Min­istry of Ed­u­ca­tion, Hu­man Re­source Man­age­ment and Labour, Spe­cial Ed­u­ca­tion Unit and NGOs.

Dig­i­cel was greeted by an over­whelm­ing num­ber of chil­dren with spe­cial needs from across the is­land - 475 in to­tal - as well as teach­ers, in­vited guests and vol­un­teers all ex­cited and dressed up in their coloured T-shirts. The stu­dents proudly rep­re­sented Dun­not­tar school, Lady Gor­don Op­por­tu­nity Cen­tre, Den­nery Child De­vel­op­ment Cen­tre, Vieux Fort Spe­cial Ed­u­ca­tion Unit, Soufriere Spe­cial Ed­u­ca­tion and Re­ha­bil­i­ta­tion Cen­tre, Ed­u­care Learn­ing Cen­tre, St. Lucia Blind Wel­fare As­so­ci­a­tion and the Autism Re­source Cen­tre.

The day-long fun-filled event started off with a prayer, the singing of the Na­tional An­them led by the Lady Gor­don Op­por­tu­nity Cen­tre choir then straight into a heart­felt wel­come by the MC, Mr. Dale St. Juste, Ed­u­ca­tion Of­fi­cer, Min­istry of Ed­u­ca­tion – Spe­cial Ed Unit. Dig­i­cel's Coun­try Man­ager, Siob­han James-Alexan­der com­mented: “Dig­i­cel is in­deed proud to host an­other suc­cess­ful 4th An­nual Fes­ti­val of Fun Day. Dig­i­cel is very pas­sion­ate about the spe­cial needs com­mu­nity and will con­tinue to show sup­port to you. To­day is your day, to in­dulge, cel­e­brate and have an ex­tra­or­di­nary time as you par­tic­i­pate care­fully in the fun sports and other fan­tas­tic ac­tiv­i­ties.”

Ru­fina Charles, Deputy Chief Ed­u­ca­tion Of­fi­cer for In­struc­tions, de­clared the Fes­ti­val of Fun Day open. There­after, the chil­dren were pre­sented with an ex­tra­or­di­nary day filled with games, food and lots of sur­prises. They were first treated to a warm break­fast, af­ter which they headed to the dif­fer­ent ar­eas of the fa­cil­ity sec­tioned off for each sport­ing ac­tiv­ity. The chil­dren en­joyed a day of face paint­ing, bouncy cas­tle, en­ter­tain­ment from mas­cots - Pep­per Pig, Bat­man, Spi­derman, Peter Pan and Bugs Bunny - plus horse rides fol­lowed by foot­ball, bas­ket­ball, ta­ble ten­nis and much more. The day cli­maxed with a live per­for­mance from Dig­i­cel's Soca Am­bas­sador Ricky T who had the chil­dren singing ev­ery line to his pop­u­lar songs.

Dig­i­cel salutes its part­ners Pinehill, Par­adise Wa­ter, Ti-Malta, Fer­rands Dairy and Domino's Pizza plus vol­un­teers and all those who made it pos­si­ble for the chil­dren to have a suc­cess­ful 2015 Fes­ti­val of Fun Day.

It was in­deed a mem­o­rable and fun day for Dig­i­cel’s man­age­ment and staff, and spe­cial needs chil­dren.
