18 persons hospitalized in Christmas holiday incidents
At least eighteen persons were hospitalized as a result of separate incidents during the Christmas holiday weekend, the Saint Lucia Fire Service has reported. The majority of the incidents involved motor vehicle collisions including one on Christmas Eve night in which a minibus and a Suzuki jeep collided at Mongiraud at about 7:29 p.m.
Ten persons sustained various injuries and had to be transported to hospital via ambulances from the Gros Islet and Castries Fire stations.
In addition to vehicle collisions, at least three persons became victims of physical assaults and had to be rushed to hospital via ambulance.
One of the physical assault incidents happened in Castries and resulted in injury to a 28-year-old female.
In a separate incident a 44-year-old man was attacked with a cutlass at Marc.
The Saint Lucia Fire Service has reported responding to some 135 emergency calls during the Christmas holiday period.
