18 per­sons hos­pi­tal­ized in Christ­mas hol­i­day in­ci­dents

At least eigh­teen per­sons were hos­pi­tal­ized as a re­sult of sep­a­rate in­ci­dents dur­ing the Christ­mas hol­i­day week­end, the Saint Lucia Fire Ser­vice has re­ported. The ma­jor­ity of the in­ci­dents in­volved mo­tor ve­hi­cle col­li­sions in­clud­ing one on Christ­mas Eve night in which a minibus and a Suzuki jeep col­lided at Mon­gi­raud at about 7:29 p.m.

Ten per­sons sus­tained var­i­ous in­juries and had to be trans­ported to hos­pi­tal via am­bu­lances from the Gros Islet and Cas­tries Fire sta­tions.

In ad­di­tion to ve­hi­cle col­li­sions, at least three per­sons be­came vic­tims of phys­i­cal as­saults and had to be rushed to hos­pi­tal via am­bu­lance.

One of the phys­i­cal as­sault in­ci­dents hap­pened in Cas­tries and re­sulted in in­jury to a 28-year-old fe­male.

In a sep­a­rate in­ci­dent a 44-year-old man was at­tacked with a cut­lass at Marc.

The Saint Lucia Fire Ser­vice has re­ported re­spond­ing to some 135 emer­gency calls dur­ing the Christ­mas hol­i­day pe­riod.
