The Star (St. Lucia) - - LOCAL -

On Sunday January 3rd, 2016 Renwick & Company marked fifty years since its doors were first opened for business at 19 Bridge Street, Castries with a compliment of two employees. The company now employs one hundred and seven team members and operates out of two locations – Vide Bouteille Highway, Castries and Beanfield, Vieux Fort. Now the biggest independent distribution company in Saint Lucia, Renwick & Company Ltd continues to be headed by its founder and Managing Director, Christopher Renwick.

The fiftieth anniversary celebrations started off with a thanksgiving church service for employees and their families at the Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in La Clery on Sunday January 3rd. As part of the corporate social responsibility component of the celebrations, hampers were donated to the first babies born on the anniversary date of Sunday January 3rd, 2016 at the two main public hospitals: St. Jude’s Hospital in Vieux Fort and Victoria Hospital in Castries.

The lucky baby at Victoria Hospital was Hailey Kayla Felix who was born at 12:15 am on the morning of January 3rd. Her mother Judy Herman was indeed thankful that Hailey was healthy and also for the unexpected surprise of being awarded the Renwick 50th anniversary baby hamper.

At St. Jude’s Hospital on the morning of January 3rd there were three potential winners for the Renwick baby 50th anniversary baby hamper. It came down to the last hour when Kaga Albert of Mon Repos gave birth to her daughter Kelsey Albert at midnight.

The hampers awarded to the lucky babies contained products from the Renwick line of baby care brands which include Johnson’s baby products, Beechnut baby food and Sleepy diapers.

Throughout the year Renwick’s Johnson’s baby care nursing professionals will conduct pre- and post-natal clinics for expectant and new mothers at all health centres throughout the island.

On Monday January 4th, 2016 customers visiting the company’s offices in Castries and Vieux Fort were served with coffee from the company’s Colcafe range of coffee, capucchino and Chocolisto breakfast drink, Noel biscuits and United Biscuits brands along with KC and Arcor confectionery.

At the end of January a retail promotion called “50 Days of Discounts” will be rolled out. The promotion will include fifty consecutive days of discounts on specially marked items among the Renwick product portfolio. These discounts will be available at Renwick’s retailers and at the company’s distribution locations.

Throughout 2016 the company will celebrate this milestone with activities and promotions featuring the many brands they bring to businesses and consumers across Saint Lucia and a number of activities are also planned to recognize team members for their long service and dedication to the team.

Renwick & Company’s presence is not limited to the consumer goods industry. Through its two garden centre outlets in Castries and Vieux Fort, Renwick is the major supplier of agricultural inputs. Its brands, including Gramoxone, Touchdown, Fersan fertilizer and Solo sprayers, are an integral part of the fabric of the local farming communities.

In fact it was Christopher Renwick, in the early days of Renwick & Company, who introduced local farmers to the concept of chemical control of weeds when he personally conducted field trials for Gramoxone which, at the time, was new technology in the industry.

With its slogan “Shopping The World For You” the company’s other divisions also make similar contributions to the local community: • The pharmaceutical division, through its Abbott Laboratories range of haematology products, provides Renwick & Company with an opportunity to partner with the blood testing laboratories at all public health facilities. • In the construction industry the company’s cement brand, Argos, is distributed via a well-established network of dealers and wholesalers throughout the island. This division also distributes a number of other products includig USG ceiling tiles, nails, doors, windows, kitchens and granite counter tops. • Office furniture is sold through the company’s showroom on the Vide Bouteille Highway. Additionally Renwick also serves the local printing community through the distribution of paper and commercial printing supplies.

The Renwick portfolio includes many power brands in the fast moving consumer goods (FMCGs) segment. These include Johnson & Johnson, Noel Biscuits, Baygon, United Biscuits, Reckitt Benckiser, SC Johnson, Red Bull, Corona Beer, Ponche Caribe, among others.

Like most local companies, Renwick & Company has been faced with increasingly difficult economic challenges over the last few years but the company continues to evolve to meet these challenges through the commitment of dedicated staff members, supportive suppliers, loyal customers, proactive leadership and by living its slogan of “Shopping the World For You.”

Renwick & Company brought good tidings to the first baby born at the Vieux Fort hospital (above) and a second bundle of joy at Victoria Hospital (below) on

January 3, to coincide with the company’s 50th anniversary.
