Nobel Laureate Week Continues
Nobel Laureate Week 2016 with the theme ‘Celebrating Excellence: Transforming Lives’ continues, with its last event at the UWI Open Campus on Wednesday 17 February, 2016. The Patricia Osmond Literary Workshop, which takes place two weeks after the official Week dates 17-30 January, reminds the public that Nobel Laureate Week is not over yet!
This year, the Nobel Laureate Week Committee confirms, events were attended more than previous years, sometimes to full capacity, and believes the theme ‘Celebrating Excellence: Transforming Lives’ encouraged a variety of concepts which enabled exciting activities to be delivered in different disciplines. One of the highlights making international news included the opening of Walcott House which was attended by Hon. Derek Walcott (Nobel Laureate), Chairperson of the Nobel Laureate Committee and Governor General of Saint Lucia, Her Excellency Dame Pearlette Louisy and Saint Lucia’s Prime Minister, Hon. Kenny D. Anthony with several Government Ministers, and Taiwanese Ambassador to Saint Lucia His Excellency Ray H. W. Mou in attendance. Numbers of people attending events in Vieux Fort, Soufriere, Laborie and Dennery soared and other events featuring lectures, plays and awards taking place in the north of the island excelled in quality and attendance.
On Wednesday 17 February, 2016, 9:00a.m to 5:00p.m. the UWI Open Campus St Lucia hosts students of the Sir Arthur Lewis Community College and Vieux Fort Comprehensive Secondary School Campus B at the Inaugural Patricia Osmond Literary Workshop. The event takes the form of an intensive examination preparation workshop for students preparing for the Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examination (CAPE) Literatures in English. Facilitating the workshop will be St Lucian-born Dr Antonia McDonald, former SALCC lecturer and current Professor of English Literature and Associate Dean in the School of Arts and Sciences, St Georges University.
The Nobel Laureate Week Committee extends its sincere thanks to First Citizens Investment Services Ltd (FCIS) and members of the media.
