No­bel Lau­re­ate Week Con­tin­ues

No­bel Lau­re­ate Week 2016 with the theme ‘Cel­e­brat­ing Ex­cel­lence: Trans­form­ing Lives’ con­tin­ues, with its last event at the UWI Open Cam­pus on Wed­nes­day 17 Fe­bru­ary, 2016. The Pa­tri­cia Os­mond Lit­er­ary Work­shop, which takes place two weeks af­ter the of­fi­cial Week dates 17-30 Jan­uary, re­minds the pub­lic that No­bel Lau­re­ate Week is not over yet!

This year, the No­bel Lau­re­ate Week Com­mit­tee con­firms, events were at­tended more than pre­vi­ous years, some­times to full ca­pac­ity, and be­lieves the theme ‘Cel­e­brat­ing Ex­cel­lence: Trans­form­ing Lives’ en­cour­aged a va­ri­ety of con­cepts which en­abled ex­cit­ing ac­tiv­i­ties to be de­liv­ered in dif­fer­ent dis­ci­plines. One of the high­lights mak­ing in­ter­na­tional news in­cluded the open­ing of Wal­cott House which was at­tended by Hon. Derek Wal­cott (No­bel Lau­re­ate), Chair­per­son of the No­bel Lau­re­ate Com­mit­tee and Gov­er­nor Gen­eral of Saint Lu­cia, Her Ex­cel­lency Dame Pear­lette Louisy and Saint Lu­cia’s Prime Min­is­ter, Hon. Kenny D. An­thony with sev­eral Govern­ment Min­is­ters, and Tai­wanese Am­bas­sador to Saint Lu­cia His Ex­cel­lency Ray H. W. Mou in at­ten­dance. Num­bers of peo­ple at­tend­ing events in Vieux Fort, Soufriere, La­borie and Den­nery soared and other events fea­tur­ing lec­tures, plays and awards tak­ing place in the north of the is­land ex­celled in qual­ity and at­ten­dance.

On Wed­nes­day 17 Fe­bru­ary, 2016, 9:00a.m to 5:00p.m. the UWI Open Cam­pus St Lu­cia hosts stu­dents of the Sir Arthur Lewis Com­mu­nity Col­lege and Vieux Fort Com­pre­hen­sive Sec­ondary School Cam­pus B at the In­au­gu­ral Pa­tri­cia Os­mond Lit­er­ary Work­shop. The event takes the form of an in­ten­sive ex­am­i­na­tion prepa­ra­tion work­shop for stu­dents pre­par­ing for the Caribbean Ad­vanced Pro­fi­ciency Ex­am­i­na­tion (CAPE) Lit­er­a­tures in English. Fa­cil­i­tat­ing the work­shop will be St Lu­cian-born Dr An­to­nia McDon­ald, for­mer SALCC lec­turer and cur­rent Pro­fes­sor of English Lit­er­a­ture and As­so­ciate Dean in the School of Arts and Sci­ences, St Ge­orges Univer­sity.
