NCPC Empowers Junior Supervisors to Become Productive Leaders
Aone-day workshop was organized for personnel within the Department of Finance, Economic Affairs and Social Security entitled ‘High Productivity Leadership’. The workshop, facilitated by the National Competitiveness & Productivity Council (NCPC), was held on Wednesday February 10, 2016 at the Customs and Excise training room.
The workshop was attended by approximately 20 participants from various departments within the Department of Finance including Inland Revenue Department, Customs & Excise Department, Postal Services and the Accountant General’s Department. The trainees were given an in-depth overview on the main factors affecting productivity in the workplace and also focused on their roles as productive change agents in their respective units. The session was designed to provide the necessary tools required for the supervisors to be better able to guide their teams to get the best results out of available resources.
Leadership undeniably impacts on the organization’s productivity, in particular employee outcomes. Therefore the appropriate traits, styles, actions and leaders’ influence are critical in ensuring effective outcomes and leading a team to success.
The session covered a variety of critical areas that impact the productivity of a leader. Some of the main topics explored were planning, time management, delegation, team building, employee development and employee motivation.
The sessions were highly interactive and consisted of discussions and training exercises that emphasized the concepts and tips covered.
The NCPC sought to establish a rapport with the participants and aspires to evaluate the session’s impact on their work. It is anticipated that a second session will ensue to explore other important topics that impact on a leader’s productivity and performance.
