RE­PUB­LIC OF CHINA (TAI­WAN) PLEDGES COM­MIT­MENT TO SAINT LU­CIA

The Pres­i­dent-Elect of the Re­pub­lic of China (Tai­wan), Her Ex­cel­lency Tsai Ing-wen, has re-af­firmed her com­mit­ment to main­tain­ing the strong bonds of friend­ship be­tween the Govern­ment and peo­ple of Saint Lu­cia and the Re­pub­lic of China (Tai­wan).

In a let­ter to Prime Min­is­ter and Min­is­ter for Fi­nance, Eco­nomic Affairs, Plan­ning and So­cial Se­cu­rity, Hon. Dr. Kenny D. An­thony, Pres­i­den­t­Elect Tsai Ing-wen stated: “As long-stand­ing al­lies, Tai­wan and Saint Lu­cia share a strong com­mit­ment to­wards build­ing closer political, eco­nomic and cul­tural re­la­tions.

“My fu­ture Ad­min­is­tra­tion looks for­ward to work­ing closely with Saint Lu­cia to deepen our co­op­er­a­tion in ar­eas of pub­lic health, education, in­fra­struc­ture, and cul­ture.”

The Prime Min­is­ter, at a re­cent meet­ing with the Am­bas­sador of the Re­pub­lic of China (Tai­wan), His Ex­cel­lency Ray Mou, stated: “This marks a mon­u­men­tal achieve­ment in the political land­scape of the Re­pub­lic of China as it has elected, for the first time, a fe­male to be Pres­i­dent. We also wel­come and con­grat­u­late her run­ning mate, His Ex­cel­lency Dr. Chen Chien-jen, as Vice Pres­i­dent-Elect of your great na­tion. We wish them both suc­cess­ful terms and look for­ward to work­ing with them in the com­ing years.”

In 2015 the Govern­ment of Saint Lu­cia es­tab­lished the Saint Lu­cia Em­bassy in Tai­wan, touted by Pres­i­dent Tsai Ing-wen as an af­fir­ma­tion of strong bi­lat­eral re­la­tions be­tween the two ter­ri­to­ries.
