Drug Seizure in Vieux Fort

On Thurs­day, March 3rd, 2016 about 7:30 p.m. a multi-ju­ris­dic­tional in­ter-agency op­er­a­tion in the south of the is­land re­sulted in the ar­rest of two Saint Lu­cians and one Vin­cen­tian on a lo­cal go-fast ves­sel which was about to land con­trolled drugs into Saint Lu­cia.

Ac­cord­ing to a RSLPF press re­lease, dur­ing the op­er­a­tion - which com­prised mar­itime, aerial and land as­sets - four bales and five bags of com­pressed cannabis weigh­ing 97.3 ki­los (214lbs) were dis­cov­ered and seized af­ter they were jet­ti­soned from the go-fast ves­sel. A fur­ther 1.4 ki­los (3lbs) was dis­cov­ered on the per­son of one of the sus­pects.

One of the sus­pects re­ceived a sin­gle gun­shot wound to the leg. The sus­pect was trans­ported to St. Jude Hos­pi­tal for med­i­cal treat­ment.

No po­lice of­fi­cer was shot or in­jured dur­ing the op­er­a­tion and United States As­sets were not in­volved in this op­er­a­tion.

Charges are ex­pected to be laid soon.
