Saint Lucia National Youth Council Launches #FullPotential
On March 15th, 2016 the Saint Lucia National Youth Council (NYC) launched the Youth #FullPotential programme in collaboration with JetBlue Airways pilot, Neil Justin, the Saint Lucia Air and Sea Ports Authority and the Aviation Lovers Group from Saint Lucia.
A team of volunteers accompanied by Pilot Justin visited the Entrepot Secondary School, the Saint Mary's College and the Soufriere Comprehensive Secondary School. Pilot Justin, a Saint Lucian pilot, spoke to students on his journey to becoming a pilot and gave advice on how to remain focused during studies and in life. The students were thoroughly engaged during Pilot Justin's presentation and inquired about what subjects should be studied at the CXC level to become a pilot.
During his presentation, Pilot Justin made a commitment to establishing a Youth Mentoring Programme in collaboration with the NYC for students interested in the aviation industry.
The first phase of the programme, Youth #FullPotential is a mobile career expo which will tour schools around the island. The mobile career expo will expose students to various career paths through interactive presentations from Saint Lucians working in the diaspora who are keen on giving back to nation-building.
President of the National Youth Council, Miss Louise Victor, who commented on the launch of the programme said, “It is very important that we, as young people, are encouraged and equipped with the tools, guidance, skills and knowledge to develop with modern society and in a global village. This programme is one which has great potential as it is an area as a country that we are yet to fully explore. As a council we are hoping that through this network, increased opportunities in the field of aviation and other career areas can be cited for young Saint Lucians. We believe in encouraging young people to think outside the box in making career choices and recognize that the world is their oyster.”
The Saint Lucia National Youth Council highlighted that other phases of the Youth #FullPotential programme will be enrolled during youth month in April. The NYC expresses sincerest gratitude to JetBlue Airways and SLASPA for their support as partners for this project.
