Soufriere Cre­ole Jazz an­nounces line-up!

Ad­ver­tised un­der the tag line “Come en­joy the time, party un­der the Pi­tons”, Soufriere Cre­ole Jazz and Arts Fes­ti­val 2016 will come alive with a one-day arts and cul­tural day/night fi­esta on the Soufriere Wa­ter­front on Satur­day April 30, fol­lowed by its sig­na­ture mu­si­cal ex­pose at the Soufriere mini-sta­dium on Sun­day May 1. This year’s fes­ti­val prom­ises to de­liver great mu­sic and an au­then­tic Saint Lu­cian arts and cul­tural ex­pe­ri­ence with great en­ter­tain­ers, uniquely Soufriere craft, ex­quis­ite cui­sine, and great steel pan ex­po­si­tions.

In re­sponse to de­mands that the solely mu­si­cal event evolve from a one-day event into an ex­pe­ri­ence which guar­an­tees that there is never a dull mo­ment, an arts and cul­tural el­e­ment was added. This com­po­nent of the fes­ti­val will be hosted in col­lab­o­ra­tion with the Cul­tural De­vel­op­ment Foun­da­tion and will show­case lo­cal craft, a com­mu­nity art col­lage, and live mu­si­cal per­for­mances from steel pan groups from the south of the is­land and one Soufriere mu­si­cal band.

Hun­dreds of Saint Lu­cians are ex­pected to de­scend on the scenic com­mu­nity to en­joy its cul­tural her­itage, cel­e­brate the artis­tic ex­pres­sion, buy the works of its res­i­dent ar­ti­sans, and savour Cre­ole culi­nary de­lights.

On Sun­day May 1 thou­sands of Saint Lu­cians and for­eign­ers are ex­pected to un­wind in the idyl­lic am­bi­ence of this tran­quil town to the var­i­ous in­ter­na­tional and Caribbean rhythms which guar­an­tee to take them to an un­for­get­table melo­di­ous es­cape. With a track record of de­liv­er­ing world-ac­claimed head­lin­ers, out­stand­ing lo­cal bands and su­perb in­di­vid­ual tal­ent, the mu­si­cal com­po­nent has be­come well-known for its great and di­verse se­lec­tion of mu­sic. This year is no ex­cep­tion as the au­di­ence will be treated to an eclec­tic mix to in­clude R&B, pop, rap, lovers rock, ca­dence, zouk, soca and jazz. Three­time Grammy Award win­ner Wy­clef Jean, and leg­endary in­ter­na­tional reg­gae artist Maxi Priest will head­line the event while other no­table acts such as Rob ‘Zi’ Tay­lor, EvaLu­cian and Cre­ole King of St. Lu­cia, Gre­gory Si­naise, will fea­ture.

Soufriere Cre­ole Jazz and Arts Fes­ti­val is de­signed to ex­pand the world-ac­claimed Saint Lu­cia Jazz and Arts Fes­ti­val by bring­ing it to the south-western cor­ri­dor of Saint Lu­cia; to stim­u­late short-term eco­nomic ac­tiv­ity; to pro­vide a plat­form for suc­cess­ful na­tional artists; to ex­pose lo­cal mu­si­cal and artis­tic tal­ent; to catal­yse the preser­va­tion of cul­tural her­itage; to foster so­cial co­he­sion and to pro­mote Soufriere as a tourism desti­na­tion.

The pre­sent­ing spon­sor, the Soufriere Re­gional De­vel­op­ment Foun­da­tion, wel­comes all to the quaint but scenic town of Soufriere.
