Home Af­fairs Min­is­ter con­grat­u­lates new Com­mis­sioner of Police

Police are in­ves­ti­gat­ing a fa­tal ac­ci­dent which oc­curred on Mon­day March 29, 2016 about 7:55 p.m. on the Mil­len­nium High­way, Castries. Mo­tor om­nibus reg­is­tra­tion num­ber TX 361, driven by Eg­bert Nel­son of Sunny Acres, Castries was trav­el­ling in a north­ern di­rec­tion when it col­lided with Der­rick Eugene of Ciceron, Castries.

At the time of the ac­ci­dent, Eugene was wheel­chair-bound and trav­el­ling in the op­po­site di­rec­tion.

Eugene was trans­ported to the Vic­to­ria Hospital where he was pro­nounced dead by a med­i­cal doc­tor.

This is the third fa­tal road traf­fic ac­ci­dent for 2016.

Min­is­ter for Le­gal Af­fairs, Home Af­fairs and Na­tional Se­cu­rity, Sen­a­tor the Hon­ourable Vic­tor Philip La Corbiniere ex­tends con­grat­u­la­tions to the new Com­mis­sioner of Police, Mr. Sev­erin Monch­ery on his ap­point­ment.

The Min­istry of Home Af­fairs and Na­tional Se­cu­rity, he says, is look­ing for­ward to con­tin­u­ing to pro­vide sup­port to the Royal Saint Lu­cia Police Force.

Police Com­mis­sioner Mr. Sev­erin Monch­ery of­fi­cially took up his ap­point­ment yes­ter­day, Fri­day April, 1, 2016.

Mr. Monch­ery was en­listed in the Royal Saint Lu­cia Police Force in 1985 and has worked in many de­part­ments of the or­ga­ni­za­tion dur­ing his 31-year ten­ure in law en­force­ment.

The min­is­ter ex­tends his best wishes to all the newlyap­pointed As­sis­tant Com­mis­sion­ers of Police and also ex­presses his thanks and ap­pre­ci­a­tion to Mr. Er­rol Alexan­der dur­ing his stint as act­ing Com­mis­sioner of Police.
