Case of Pregnant 11-Year-Old “Outrageous”!

The Star (St. Lucia) - - LOCAL -

Outspoken Human Rights activist and attorney-at-law Mary Francis says the case involving an 11-year-old girl being pregnant is nothing short of ‘outrageous’. She has since called for a full investigation into the matter by the police and Human Services. The STAR has learned that since the story surfaced here on Wednesday, the Department of Human Services has confirmed the incident and is pursuing an investigation.

On Monday a single mother of Micoud took her 11-year-old daughter to see the doctor after the child had complained of not feeling well. It was at that moment that she was informed by the doctor that her daughter was five months pregnant.

The STAR has learned that family members believe that a 17-year-old who lives in the same community allegedly had sex with the child and impregnated the minor. The incident has sparked outrage in the community with neighbours expressing shock not only at the pregnancy but also the fact that the mother was unaware of the child being pregnant.
