Man extradited from St Lucia and charged with murder
Aman accused of knifing a teenager to death in South London three years ago has been extradited from Saint Lucia. Devante Clifford, 20, was arrested after landing at Gatwick Airport and was charged with the murder of 17-year-old Champion Ganda. Clifford is the third man to be charged with the killing - Amani Lynch and Marvin Simos, both 19, are due to stand trial for murder on November 14 at the Old Bailey.
Ganda was pronounced dead at the scene in Sandringham Road, Forest Gate, East London on May 9 2013. A 16-year-old boy, who has not been named, also suffered stab wounds in the incident.
Clifford is due to appear at Thames Magistrates’ Court to face charges of murder – and an alternative count of manslaughter. He is further charged with attempted murder, causing grievous bodily harm with intent, wounding and assault occasioning actual bodily harm in relation to the second victim.
Ganda and his siblings had moved to Havering from inner east London in 2010. The eldest of seven, Ganda was “like a dad in the house”, according to his mother Peggy Kato. She has made calls since his death for more to be done in the borough to prevent others suffering the same fate.
