Saint Lucia continues to receive financial and technical support from UNESCO’s Participation Programme for the initiation of a number of developmental projects. Four agencies recently benefited from the initiative when the Saint Lucia National Commission for UNESCO held a cheque presentation ceremony totaling EC $201, 615.

Secretary General of UNESCO, Marcia Symphorien Laurent says the developmental projects are very important as they enhance UNESCO’s mission. “Essentially what we are here to do today is to signal the official start of the implementation of those four projects that have been granted funding and we are very pleased to be able to present those cheques to the Department of Gender Relations, Piton Management Area office, the Ministry of Education for two projects: one in Mathematics and one in Science. I want to thank all of you for being here with us today and I want to congratulate all of the implementing agencies who submitted and continue to show an interest in the work of the commission.”

Minister for Education, Innovation, Gender Relations and Sustainable Development, Hon. Dr. Gale Rigobert expressed delight that this initiative will impact the lives of Saint Lucians. “I want to thank those agencies who applied, because very often we think there is a shortage of resources but I firmly believe that there are resources out there in the universe, that we simply have to reach out and tap those resources. I want to thank those of you who took the time and made the effort to table your application and here we are as proud recipients, a testimony to the value of the work that you put in and an indication of the level of importance that UNESCO has placed on the work that you are proposing to
