Duty calls in Asia for PM Chastanet
Saint Lucia’s Prime Minister Honourable Allen Chastanet has stated his intention to report to the nation on a regular basis, representing the interest of the country abroad.
“The government regards reporting back to the people as part of our national duty,” he stated. “We take it seriously, so they can expect to hear from me while off island, of course using the available technology”, he concluded.
Chastanet committed himself to keeping the public duly informed prior to his Asian trip slated for August 17 to 26. He is travelling to the People’s Republic of China, following invitation from major investor and Chairman of Desert Star Holdings Limited, Mr. Teo Ah Khing. During his trip he will visit several of the company’s investments. He welcomes the opportunity to confirm or dispel first-hand some speculation surrounding the company’s track record.
Desert Star Holdings signed a Framework Agreement with the Government of Saint Lucia in July, resulting in an average USD 2.6 billion investment project titled “Pearl of the Caribbean”. The project is earmarked for Vieux Fort.
Chastanet will also pay a courtesy visit to the Republic of China in Taiwan, where he will have preliminary meetings with government officials, with the intent of laying the groundwork for an official state visit later this year by the new Saint Lucian Administration. The Prime Minister will also visit with Saint Lucian students and Saint Lucia’s Embassy in Taiwan, during which time Hon. Dr. Gale T. C. Rigobert will be the Acting Prime Minister.
Minister Flood will accompany the Prime Minister at a later date on the Taiwan leg of the trip.
