Team Destination Saint Lucia for Arc 2016

Yesterday the Saint Lucia Tourist Board hosted a press conference for Team Destination Saint Lucia participating in the ARC 2016. The main focus is obtaining support and sponsorship, aiding Saint Lucia’s very first ARC racing team members to transport themselves and their sailboat Pogo S2 to Las Palmas.
The members of Team Destination Saint Lucia are Dylan Charles, Eric Baray, Jervais Valcin, Ricardo Charmo, Kelious Scott Anthony and Fredric Sweeney. Each individual has over 10 years of experience in sailing, having taken part in J24 regattas throughout the Caribbean.
The men are all dedicated to sailing and are honoured to form a team and join in the ARC. “Every year me and the boys would go out and we would watch the first boats come in and we would always be astonished and think, ‘Wow maybe one day, we might do this but how?’ ” said Fredric Sweeney.
Representative for IGY Rodney Bay Marina, Sean Devaux, Operations and Manager, expressed his congratulations to the team members, four of whom still work at the marina.
Dylan Charles summed up the sentiment of the team by saying, “It’s not something you would go into and say you’re not scared about. But the best peace of mind is knowing there is somebody on board who has done it before, who has done races in far worse conditions, even on his own, single-handed racing. Sailing as a team during the ARC will be real good.”
