Mayor shares Reparations Baton with Dreadlocks!
In this STAR Exclusive photo, Castries Mayor Peterson Francis (2nd from left) sported the national flag colours while the bretheren from the Iyanola Council for Advancement of Rastafari (ICAR) donned their Kwéyòl and African Liberation colours, as they together held the CARICOM Reparations Baton during a related Reparations-Kwéyòl Youth Rally held at the Derek Walcott Square on October 29. The Rally, organized by the Saint Lucia National Reparations Committee (NRC), was also addressed by the Mayor and the Program Manager for Culture and Community Relations at the CARICOM Secretariat in Guyana, Dr Hilary Brown. Earlier, several local champion athletes, led by triple-Olympian high jumper and 13-time Sportswoman of the Year Levern Spencer, had taken the Baton around the city circuit in a CARICOM Reparations Baton Relay. Minister in the Ministry of Culture and Local Government Fortuna Belrose also participated in the final leg of the relay, which culminated with the start of the Youth Rally. The NRC says it plans to continue a series of related school and community lectures, and similar activities, island-wide and year-round!
