Mayor shares Repa­ra­tions Ba­ton with Dread­locks!

In this STAR Ex­clu­sive photo, Cas­tries Mayor Peter­son Fran­cis (2nd from left) sported the na­tional flag colours while the bretheren from the Iyanola Coun­cil for Ad­vance­ment of Rasta­fari (ICAR) donned their Kwéyòl and African Lib­er­a­tion colours, as they to­gether held the CARICOM Repa­ra­tions Ba­ton dur­ing a re­lated Repa­ra­tions-Kwéyòl Youth Rally held at the Derek Wal­cott Square on Oc­to­ber 29. The Rally, or­ga­nized by the Saint Lu­cia Na­tional Repa­ra­tions Com­mit­tee (NRC), was also ad­dressed by the Mayor and the Pro­gram Man­ager for Cul­ture and Com­mu­nity Re­la­tions at the CARICOM Sec­re­tar­iat in Guyana, Dr Hi­lary Brown. Ear­lier, sev­eral lo­cal cham­pion ath­letes, led by triple-Olympian high jumper and 13-time Sportswoman of the Year Lev­ern Spencer, had taken the Ba­ton around the city cir­cuit in a CARICOM Repa­ra­tions Ba­ton Re­lay. Min­is­ter in the Min­istry of Cul­ture and Lo­cal Gov­ern­ment For­tuna Bel­rose also par­tic­i­pated in the fi­nal leg of the re­lay, which cul­mi­nated with the start of the Youth Rally. The NRC says it plans to con­tinue a se­ries of re­lated school and com­mu­nity lec­tures, and sim­i­lar ac­tiv­i­ties, is­land-wide and year-round!
