SLASPA ready for Holiday Barrel Trade
SLASPA and the Customs and Excise Department have advised that all is place to facilitate the Barrel Trade this Holiday Season. The department has noted that they are working jointly to ensure that customers are able to clear their goods as efficiently as possible.
The Authority, as in years past has opened up Shed Seven to handle the excess of barrel clearance demands over the holiday season; furthermore SLASPA’s Port and Customs personnel are stationed onsite to ensure that customers are able to clear their barrels in a wellorganized manner improving customer service delivery. With a continuous mandate to innovate and improve the ease of doing business, SLASPA has employed a dedicated Clerk to assist with data entry of trucker information and has stationed a Port Police Officer to deal specifically with issuance of passes for port visitors. In the days approaching the Christmas and New Year’s Holidays the Port will also be implementing extended working hours; which will not only be implemented on weekends, but also during the week to facilitate the clearing and delivery of goods. Customers are urged to make certain that they received all documents from their agents before coming to the Port and to ensure they bring along their national Identification or ID Cards. SLASPA urges customers to take note of the following tips when clearing barrels:
• No more than two persons will be allowed to enter the port compound per transaction.
• Children under 12 years will not be allowed on the port compound.
• Please observe all signs and instructions on the port compound e.g. designated parking areas, exits and waiting areas.
• Please remember to exercise due caution because you will be moving around in an area where cargo carriers and containers hauling equipment operate. Customers also have the option of contacting a broker to clear goods on their behalf or utilizing the Broker available at the Port.
Its all systems go for SLASPA just in time for the annual barrel concession period.
