Soleil Summer Festival

The Star (St. Lucia) - - LOCAL - --- Claudia Eleibox

The newly established Events Company of Saint Lucia has announced details of the Soleil Summer Festival. Soleil - which means sun in creole - is a different concept to what the St. Lucia Jazz & Arts Festival had become. Six festivals will be held across May to October including St. Lucia Jazz, Roots & Soul, St. Lucia Carnival, Food & Rum, Country & Blues, and Arts & Heritage.

According to Prime Minister Allen Chastanet, the aim is to return to the idea of the original St. Lucia Jazz: enjoying music from local, regional and international jazz artists for just two days. The wider distribution of the other events is meant to stabilize the income of people in the country rather than compacting it to two weekends a year (Jazz & Arts plus Carnival). Donovan Williams, Chairman of Events Company of Saint Lucia said, “When we think of change the word risk always seems to be at the forefront” but it was emphasized that the success of Soleil can only be possible if Saint Lucians continue to be supportive.

The Soleil Summer Festival will consist of six events running from May to October.
