Taiwan Scholarship Application Open

The Star (St. Lucia) - - THE LIGHT SIDE -

Dozens of students and people hoping to be considered for this year’s Taiwanese scholarship showed up to the Orchid Centre in Union on Thursday, February 16 for a briefing session by the Taiwanese Embassy. There, representatives shared details of the available scholarships and eligibility requirements. The scholarship programmes provide opportunities for Saint Lucians to study in Taiwan for Bachelor, Master or PhD degrees.

At Thursday’s event, outgoing Taiwanese Ambassador Ray Mou shared encouraging remarks with students, then Guan-ting Luo, Third Secretary at the Embassy, detailed the application process for the 2017 Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) Scholarship, International Cooperation and Development Fund (ICDF) Scholarship and I-SHOU Medical Scholarship.

As part of a list of requirements, applicants are requested to apply to only one programme; multiple applications will result in disqualification. The Embassy will interview qualified applicants, who will be notified by phone whether they have been selected.

For the I-SHOU Medical Scholarship applicants, both a written exam and an interview will be held at the Embassy. The written exam, tentatively scheduled for April 21, 2017, covers topics on English, Chemistry and Biology. The interview for that scholarship will be conducted via Skype with professors from Taiwan and the Embassy.

The deadline for application to this year’s scholarship is March 15, 2017. The list of awardees will be posted on the Embassy’s website on June 30, 2017.

Saint Lucians turned out in large numbers to this year’s Taiwanese scholarship briefing event.
