Ar­gentina Mourns the Pass­ing of Sir Derek Wal­cott

The Em­bassy of the Ar­gen­tine Repub­lic is deeply sad­dened by the death of Sir Derek Wal­cott which has been fea­tured by the Press in the Ar­gen­tine Repub­lic. The Los An­des News­pa­per wrote: “Sir Wal­cott was the poet who truly de­scribed Caribbean sen­su­al­ity.”

The Nación News­pa­per de­clared: “Re­gard­less of mul­ti­cul­tural con­sid­er­a­tions, Wal­cott was a true vir­tu­oso of form and one of the great­est poets in English lan­guage.”

The Clarin News­pa­per stated: “Derek Wal­cott was a No­bel lau­re­ate poet who cap­tured the essence of his na­tive Caribbean is­land and is the most rec­og­nized writer in the re­gion in­ter­na­tion­ally.”

Argnoti­cias.com, the on­line-based news­pa­per wrote: “He was widely praised for his deep and au­da­cious use of metaphor, and for his mix­ture of sen­su­al­ity and tech­ni­cal dex­ter­ity.”

H.E. Luis Bel­trán Martínez Thomas, Am­bas­sador of the Ar­gen­tine Repub­lic in Saint Lu­cia, who knew the late Sir Wal­cott per­son­ally, com­mented: “The loss of such a great writer and won­der­ful hu­man be­ing is in­deed a great loss to Saint Lu­cia, the Caribbean and the en­tire world of cul­ture in gen­eral.”
