LIONS CELEBRATE ANOTHER MILESTONE
Members of the Micoud Lions Club on Sunday March 26, 2017 celebrated the 22nd anniversary of their Charter as a club. The club was chartered by the Vieux Fort Lions Club who, at that time, embraced the need to expand the service of Lions.
The celebrations began with a Church Service at the St Lucy Roman Catholic Church in Micoud followed by a social engagement. Charter President Lion Julie Blanchard expressed how pleased she was with the contribution that the club continues to make in areas such as diabetes education and screening, sight preservation, hunger eradication, and the provision of educational support to needy students, to name a few. She noted that despite the many challenges, the club has lived up to its “We Serve” motto.
The highlight of the activities was the launch of the Lion Belina Clifford Educational Fund. Lion Belina was a charter member of the club who, up to the time of her death, had given sterling contribution to the club and Lionism. She is the only member of the Micoud Lions Club who has served in the capacity of Zone Chairman. Her contribution to the community of Micoud not only extended to her work in the Lions Club but in her contribution to the education and social development of many young people in Micoud.
The Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education pledged the support of the Ministry for the initiative and noted that efforts like these ensured that the mandate of equality and accessibility of education for all is achieved.
