Lawrence James - May he rest in peace

The me­dia fra­ter­nity is mourn­ing the loss of one of their own. Jour­nal­ist Lawrence James passed away at Vic­to­ria Hos­pi­tal on Tues­day fol­low­ing a lengthy ill­ness.

James was the Ed­i­tor at the Mir­ror News­pa­per. Pre­vi­ously, he worked for sev­eral years at the Voice News­pa­per. He be­gan his news­pa­per ca­reer there as an As­sis­tant Proof Reader then was trans­ferred to the Ed­i­to­rial De­part­ment as­sum­ing the po­si­tion of Ju­nior Re­porter.

Dur­ing his ten­ure at the Voice and Mir­ror News­pa­pers, James cov­ered a va­ri­ety of news events and, in par­tic­u­lar, ex­celled in sports cov­er­age. He is among the re­cip­i­ents of the Sports Me­dia Per­son of the Year at the An­nual Na­tional Sports Awards.

Those who knew him de­scribed this re­spected jour­nal­ist as de­pend­able, quiet and as­sum­ing; a man who dis­played a high level of pro­fes­sion­al­ism in all as­pects of his work.

Lawrence ded­i­cated much of his time to the St Lu­cia Cadet Corps and rose to the rank of Ma­jor. He was also a found­ing mem­ber of the Blue Dragon Karate As­so­ci­a­tion of St Lu­cia.

The Caribbean Sports Jour­nal­ists' As­so­ci­a­tion (CASJA) ex­tended con­do­lences to the fam­ily and friends of the late Lawrence James af­fec­tion­ately known as LJ, and of­fered thoughts and prayers to his fam­ily, friends and the me­dia fra­ter­nity dur­ing this dif­fi­cult time.

May his soul rest in peace.
