DID PAT JOSEPH PREDICT POLICE DISASTER?
Nearly twenty-five years ago police marksmen opened fire on a group of banana farmers who were protesting at Denier Riviere for higher wages. Two young men, barely 21 years old, lost their lives. Sixty fellow demonstrators, many members of the Banana Salvation Committee, were seriously wounded. An inquest blamed “misadventure” for the fatalities.
