Critical Issues on the Agenda at CARICOM Heads of Government Meeting
Prime Minister Allen Chastanet, Minister with responsibility for External Affairs, Sarah FloodBeaubrun and Ambassador to CARICOM Her Excellency Elma Gene Isaac, attended the CARICOM Heads of Government conference held in Grenada this week. The meeting was convened under the Chairmanship of the Prime Minister of Grenada, Dr. Keith Mitchell.
This thirty-eighth meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government fell on the CARICOM anniversary of July 4th with several significant agenda items down for consideration by the Heads of Government including regional security, the CSME, tourism, air transportation and opportunities for financing for development. Also discussed were statistics development for the region, ICT, reparations and the 2007 Port of Spain Declaration: ‘Uniting to Stop the Epidemic of NonCommunicable Diseases (NDCs)’.
Speaking to local media ahead of the trip Saint Lucia’s prime minister made mention of critical issues he felt needed to be discussed at the CARICOM level, including Brexit and the situation in Venezuela.
