Gorge on Grapefruits
The winter months bring citrus in abundance, so listen out for sour orange, lime and tangerine juice on the menu for breakfast or a tall, cooling poolside drink. TT’s favourite time of year is grapefruit season, and the big, juicy fruits hang low off the trees, bright yellow or tinged pink by the sun. The fleshy segment s are often much sweeter than store-bought counterparts, and range from pale yellow to blood red, to be enjoyed in all their tart glory, or fresh- squeezed into a zesty, refreshing juice. For a luxury grapefruit treat, sprinkle half a fruit with brown sugar and five-spice, then grill until the sugar melts and let cool befor e cracking the brulée with your spoon.
