In the mid-16th century it was the home of French pirates, and from the 17th to 19th centuries the French and British military took turns in using it as a naval base, the ruins of which are all around the park. Walking trails are well-marked and the ‘island’ has some of the north’s most captivating sea vistas and cozy coves.
