JUH-UGAFCO, KAMC Lady Spik­ers, To­modachi-KFAFH win PAL-Kalayaan Cup open­ers

JED­DAH: Look­ing to three-peat, two-time defending men’s cham­pion Jed­dah United Hit­ters-UGAFCO opened de­fense of its ti­tle with a 25-11, 25-6 vic­tory over Saudi Ger­man Hospi­tal in one of three games that tore the wraps off the PALKalayaan Vol­ley­ball Cup 4th Con­fer­ence at Trio Ranch & Coun­try Club on the out­skirts of Jed­dah.

The tour­na­ment to run for eight week­ends was launched with a col­or­ful open­ing cer­e­mony in which Vice Con­sul Sheila Alin­san­gan Bri­ones of the Philip­pine Con­sulate Gen­eral in Jed­dah was the chief guest. The other VIP guests present at the cer­e­mony were

Syed Hamid Nay­eem of the Philip­pine Air­lines, SMDC’s Al­lan Murillo Castillo, OSN Ex­ec­u­tive Alex Cinco Sales, Nas­col Sup­plies Co. Ex­ec­u­tive Man­ager Paul An­tiporda, Pepsi Cola rep­re­sen­ta­tive Mo­hammed Sami, and NWorld rep­re­sen­ta­tives Ash­ley Daye Jao and Nancy Bayani. Rep­re­sen­ta­tives form Sky Freight For­warders, In­domie, Gior­dano and Bay­toti also came as well as guest Sameera Aziz.

The spe­cial awards to go up for grabs went to Joy Ann Rose Mayan­gi­tan (To­modachi-KFAFH) Best Team Rep­re­sen­ta­tive, women’s di­vi­sion; Pa­tri­cia Per­las Dayrit (Jed­dah United Hit­ters-UGAFCO) Best Team Rep­re­sen­ta­tive, men’s di­vi­sion; SGH and JUH-UGAFCO Best Team in Uni­form men’s and women’s di­vi­sions; SGH Best Or­ga­nized Team.

The 3rd Con­fer­ence runner-up in the women’s di­vi­sion, KAMC (King Ab­du­laziz Med­i­cal City) Lady Spik­ers, were also in ac­tion Fri­day, win­ning their match against Adam’s An­gels 17-25, 25-18, 15-9.

In the other open­ing games, the women’s team of SGH took to the court twice, win­ning against Makkah Ter­mi­na­tors 25-21,25-19 in the fourth and last game and los­ing against To­modachi-KFAFH in the sec­ond game.

The Best Player award win­ners on the day were: Randy D. Ma­ca­tiguib (JUHUGAFCO), An­gela Pin­gul (To­modachiKFAFH), Sharon Es­tores (KAMC Lady Spik­ers ) and Win­rose O. Fla­viano (SGH).

There are 11 teams see­ing ac­tion, six in the women’s and five in the men’s di­vi­sion as fol­lows: Adam’s An­gels, In­ter­na­tional Med­i­cal Cen­ter (IMC) KAMC Lady Spik­ers, Makkah Ter­mi­na­tors, Saudi Ger­man Hospi­tal and To­modachiKFFH; IMC,

Jed­dah Blue Spik­ers, JUH-UGAFO, SGH and To­modachi.

The tour­na­ment is or­ga­nized by Dream­star Pro­duc­tions for Sports & Events un­der the lead­er­ship of Al Moran Ba­cleon and sup­ported by spon­sors PAL, SMDC, OSN, Nas­col Sup­plies Co, CO., Pepsi Cola, NWorld, Sky Freight For­warders, In­domie, Gior­dano and Bay­toti.
