Building site fire fills Riyadh’s sky with black smoke, shrouds Al-Faisaliah tower

RIYADH: The sky above Saudi Arabia’s capital, Riyadh, filled with thick black smoke Tuesday, rising from a building site on one its most populated and famous roads, Al-Olaya Street, while shrouding one of the city’s more prominent skyscrapers.

The blaze’s source was actually at a building site, but as the heavy smoke rose, it shrouded the nearby famous landmark Al-Faisaliah tower, leading many onlookers to believe it was the source of the fire.

Riyadh Civil Defense spokesman, Maj. Mohammed Al-Hammadi confirmed to Arab News that Al-Faisaliah tower was not on fire, but instead a building site nearby.

“No one was hurt or injured. We were able to extinguish the fire completely,” he added, speaking to Arab News.
