FOUND IN: TAG HEUER MIKROPENDULUMS WHAT’S SPE­CIAL: This is the world’s first dou­ble tour­bil­lon move­ment that uses “mag­netic pen­du­lums” in­stead of hair­springs. A watch’s hair­spring is at­tached to a bal­ance wheel, which con­trols the speed at which the wheels of the timepiece turn. Here, the hair­spring is re­placed by Tag Heuer’s patented mag­net-driven sys­tem that en­sures greater ac­cu­racy and sta­bil­ity. There are two mag­netic pen­du­lums in this watch. The one on the left keeps time for the watch, with a tour­bil­lon ro­tat­ing three times a minute. The pen­du­lum fea­tures a sec­ond tour­bil­lon that ro­tates 12 times a minute and os­cil­lates at an ul­tra-high fre­quency of 360,000 vi­bra­tions an hour. To com­pare, nor­mal watches beat at 28,800vph and con­ven­tional tour­bil­lons ro­tate once ev­ery minute.
