AGE OF EMPIRE
Vacheron Constantin has been in continuous operation longer than any other watch manufacturer in the world. Founded in 1755 by Jean-Marc Vacheron in Geneva, the Swiss watchmaker boasts a number of firsts, including the first-ever complication created in 1770. It has survived momentous events in history, pulling through the French Revolution, the Great Depression and World Wars I and II. And numerous historical figures have owned its timepieces, from Napoleon Bonaparte to Harry Truman. In 1906, its first boutique opened in Geneva’s Quai de l’Ile, and it remains there to this day. Ninety years later, the brand was taken over by its current owner, the Richemont Group.
