The first watch to be worn on the moon is the Omega Speedmaster Professional. Nicknamed the Moonwatch, it was the timepiece that recorded man’s first steps on the moon on July 21, 1969, on the Apollo 11 mission, and was part of all six manned lunar landings from 1969 to 1972. This spaceage accessory has withstood conditions of zero gravity and magnetic fields, extreme shocks, vibrations and temperatures ranging from minus 18 to 93 deg C. Today, the updated Speedmaster X-33 is flight-qualified by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (Nasa) and the Russian space agency, and is a standard piece of equipment for astronauts.
