WHO THEY ARE In 1860, Louis-Ulysse Chopard set up L.U.C in the Swiss town of Jura. Over a cen­tury later, in 1963, his grand­son, Paul-An­dre Chopard, sold the com­pany to Karl Scheufele, a gold­smith and watch­maker. CLAIM TO FAME In 1978, the Happy Di­a­monds watch fea­tur­ing mov­ing di­a­monds on the dial was launched, and be­came the brand’s iconic model. In 1997, its first men’s L.U.C 1860 watch, fit­ted with the Cal­i­bre 1.96, was named Watch of the Year by Swiss mag­a­zine Montres Pas­sion.
