WHO THEY ARE Founded in 1780 by Marie-Etienne Ni­tot, who rose to fame af­ter be­ing ap­pointed the of­fi­cial jew­eller to Em­peror Napoleon Bon­a­parte. Ni­tot de­signed the em­peror’s sword, and tiaras and jewellery for em­presses Josephine and Marie-Louise. In 1875, Joseph Chaumet mar­ried the daugh­ter of the head of the jewellery house and re­named it Chaumet. CLAIM TO FAME Over the last two cen­turies, Chaumet’s de­signs have led the way in its art nou­veau de­signs of flora and fauna from the 1800s to 1900s. In 1995, it launched its first Swiss-made watch col­lec­tion, Kh­e­sis. WHAT’S HOT The Montres Pre­cieuses 2013. A com­pli­cated timepiece that up­ends the time-telling process by us­ing a rose gold spi­der to rep­re­sent the hour hand, as it pa­tiently stalks the flit­ter­ing minute hand of a di­a­mond-stud­ded bee.
