Christie’s Royal Jewels And Exceptional Gemstones
GENEVA-NOVEMBER 10, 2015
Headlining this auction was a 16.08-ct cushion-shaped fancy vivid pink VVS2 diamond that fetched US$28,523,925, a world auction price for a fancy vivid pink diamond sold at auction. There were also other exceptional pieces with prestigious provenance such as an emerald and diamond fringe stunner that was sold at $2,610,597 and once owned by Elena di Francia, duchess of Aosta and later, Sybil Sassoon, marchioness of Cholmondeley; as well as a twostrand natural pearl necklace gifted by King Umberto I of Italy to his wife Queen Margherita and later worn by Queen Elena of Italy. Natural pearl strands did extremely well, with two fine examples surpassing their auction estimates and sold for more than $2 million.
