Sotheby’s Magnificent Jewels & Noble Jewels
GENEVA - NOVEMBER 11, 2015
The same auction that saw the Blue Moon of Josephine also included many noteworthy highlights, such as the Queen Maria-josé ruby ring. Made with a Burmese ruby weighing 8.48ct, it was owned by the last queen of Italy, Maria-josé (1906-2001) and boasts the pigeon’s blood hue. Estimated at about US$5.8 million-$8.7 million, it was unfortunately left unsold. Lots that sold well included exceptional coloured diamonds, jewellery with illustrious provenance and signed jewels displaying the finest design and workmanship of Cartier, Van Cleef & Arpels, Chaumet and JAR.
