GREAT BARRIER REEF MARINE PARK
Multiple Use with No-Take Zones Established: 1975 The largest coral reef system on the planet, the Great Barrier Reef, is one of the natural wonders of the world. In 2016 the reef system experienced a major coral bleaching event as a result of rising ocean temperatures from human-induced climate change. Whilst many shallow parts of the reef experienced severe bleaching, many of the deeper sites and outer reef remained unbleached.
