There was a strange dis­cov­ery early in the year, when sci­en­tists found that male fish were turn­ing into fe­males. In this con­fus­ing sce­nario, re­searchers sug­gested that due to chem­i­cal pol­lu­tion, specif­i­cally man-made es­tro­genic en­docrine dis­rupt­ing chem­i­cals (EEDCs) over a large por­tion of the north­east­ern United States (from Maine to Vir­ginia) were cauas­ing bass to show signs of in­ter­sex.
