In 1957, only one fam­ily was left speak­ing the lan­guage. By 1974, the re­main­der of the com­mu­nity nei­ther spoke nor un­der­stood the lan­guage, ren­der­ing Di­ca­may Agta ex­tinct. Cen­tral Maluku Prov­ince, East Buru Is­land near Kayeli, In­done­sia Mok­sela fell prey to ex­tinc­tion fol­low­ing the death of the last speaker, who died in 1974, leav­ing be­hind no means of re­viv­ing the lan­guage.
