LG G5

The modular smartphone revolution has arrived, and LG is leading the charge with the G5. While there are only two modules available at the moment ‒ improving camera and audio functionalities ‒ we’re hoping to see more in the near future. That’s not to say the LG G5 is lacking. The South Korean electronics company has packed the latest iteration of its flagship series with enough power and snazzy features to satisfy even the most jaded tech geek. It’s surely in the running for the best smartphone of the year. $988

HUAWEI MATE 8

The Chinese tech giant recently became the third most popular smartphone brand in the world, and for good reason. Its phones are solid. The Huawei Mate 8 features a sturdy all-aluminium build, a speedy new processor and battery life that easily lasts two days even with constant use. The only problem is size. The screen measures six inches, good for videos but woe for smaller hands. $888

DARREN HO, MANAGING EDITOR

“Every year, the SIHH fair offers up a generous slew of timepieces. Some are truly designed for commercial intent, others for rave critical review and there are those that are a perfect combination of both.

We’re highlighting those options here.”
