In his first campaign as artistic director, Alessandro Sartori introduces the Ermenegildo Zegna spring/summer 2017 collection by bringing together actors Robert De Niro and McCaul Lombardi. While the collection is not Sartori’s debut for the brand, the campaign marks the launch of Ermenegildo Zegna’s Defining Moments, which is intended to be a platform for interactions and discussions spanning various fields.
For its inaugural campaign, De Niro and Lombardi share their feelings and experiences about the film industry from two ends of the spectrum. The exchange is free and unscripted, exploring the similarities as well as challenges both face in an ever-changing and demanding industry despite the vast difference in time spent as working actors.
Captured by filmmaker Francesco Carrozzini, the actors are naturally dressed in the season’s best by Ermenegildo Zegna with cut scenes of the men driving in a convertible in Los Angeles and hanging out like old friends. It’s a more inclusive campaign strategy as opposed to just having famous faces fronting the collection without any backstory or connection.
The short films will be released throughout the season alongside the traditional print campaign through social media and zegna.com.
