From one of the coolest years on record, this high-al­ti­tude Mal­bec from Men­doza dis­plays zingy lev­els of lip-smack­ing acid­ity that is miles apart from the rus­tic, heavy Mal­becs of even a decade ago. Pro­duc­ers like Ter­razas de los An­des by Moët-hen­nessy are in­creas­ingly look­ing to ter­roir – such as cooler al­ti­tudes and cal­cium car­bon­ate rich soils – to make Mal­becs that are deep and ex­tracted while bal­anced with juicy tan­nins and rich, round tex­tures.
