Demna Gvasalia, Creative Director of Balenciaga and reigning king of streetwear, has the luxury fashion industry firmly in his sights. And the weapon of choice for his next conquest? These Triple S sneakers from the Fall/Winter ’17 collection.

Balenciaga going for that used look.

Things are never quite what they seem in Demna Gvasalia’s world. For his sophomore men’s collection for the French maison, he has turned his attention to ’90s corporate wear, subverting the white-collar uniform, from the double-breasted jackets worn by CEOs to the sneakers favoured by every Working Girl.

Gvasalia usually begins his process by deconstructing everyday pieces, then remaking them. Case in point: the Triple S sneakers that you see here. They were taken apart, before everything was glued back together again and thrown in a tumbler to give it an aged look.

The result is a chunky silhouette, one that’s “so ugly, it’s cool”, and Gvasalia wouldn’t have it any other way.
