Demna Gvasalia, Cre­ative Di­rec­tor of Ba­len­ci­aga and reign­ing king of streetwear, has the lux­ury fash­ion in­dus­try firmly in his sights. And the weapon of choice for his next con­quest? Th­ese Triple S sneak­ers from the Fall/Win­ter ’17 col­lec­tion.

Ba­len­ci­aga go­ing for that used look.

Things are never quite what they seem in Demna Gvasalia’s world. For his sopho­more men’s col­lec­tion for the French mai­son, he has turned his at­ten­tion to ’90s cor­po­rate wear, sub­vert­ing the white-col­lar uni­form, from the dou­ble-breasted jack­ets worn by CEOs to the sneak­ers favoured by ev­ery Work­ing Girl.

Gvasalia usu­ally be­gins his process by de­con­struct­ing ev­ery­day pieces, then re­mak­ing them. Case in point: the Triple S sneak­ers that you see here. They were taken apart, be­fore ev­ery­thing was glued back to­gether again and thrown in a tum­bler to give it an aged look.

The re­sult is a chunky sil­hou­ette, one that’s “so ugly, it’s cool”, and Gvasalia wouldn’t have it any other way.
