The original soldier’s watch, Hamilton’s Khaki Field collection embodies strength and stealth, where nothing is superfluous and everything has a purpose. Yet paradoxically the complete absence of decorative features is precisely what makes this series so alluring and what keeps Hamilton fans coming back for more. For 2018, Hamilton finds inspiration from its Second World War heritage to produce two new models.

A faithful recreation of a ’40s model, the Khaki Field Mechanical 38mm is delivered in a matte stainless steel case which looks decidedly raw and rugged, and makes perfect sense because polished surfaces are absolutely impractical in the field. Dial colours include matte black or brown, but both come with extra thick and luminescent white applied hour numerals that make the time twice as legible. Extra-large hours and minute hands also aid in this respect, as does the lollipop sweeping seconds hand tipped with an arrow head on the other end. Because timekeeping is crucial to the success of any mission, this mechanical watch has the well-known hack function which is useful when synchronising several watches. The seconds hand jumps instantaneously to 12 as soon as the crown is pulled.

Its 38mm case is a breeze on the wrist and coupled with a sand- or khaki-coloured NATO strap on pin buckle, the Khaki Field Mechanical 38mm is an ideal everyday watch for the stylish and modern city dweller.
